5.....4.....3.....2......1...... GO!
It doesn’t get much more exciting than this!
- Three, Four or even Five models with a maximum wingspan
of 60” crossing the start line and racing against each other over 10 laps of a 70m course along the slope edge. Flagmen at the far
pylon signal when a model has passed this point and can return down the course. With up to five models
competing for the best racing line, incidents can and DO happen.
The models though are made from
crash resistant Expanded Polypropylene foam which helps them to withstand most of
the rough and tumble involved in racing. Sometimes the rough and tumble is just too much though
which is when a back up model might be a good idea!

Nationals is all about Click Here and you will be taken to

What to compete with
One
of the great things about EPP60 is that there are lots of reasonably
priced commercially available models out there to buy and race. Most of
the models are of plank configuration (no tailplane) which makes them
more durable when incidents occur. This does not affect the performance
though as
they are just as fast as a conventional model around the course.
If you're looking for a suitable model then the list includes Gulp SR,
M60, Fastbak, Rampage,
Electron, S-15, TNG, HP60 and Lumberjack. Most models also just use two
channels so the radio equipment costs are minimal too.
You
don't have to buy a model though. If you're feeling creative and you
have some EPP foam then
why not have a go at designing and building your own racer. Providing it
complies with the rules you're
free to make whatever you want. Many of the successful models on the
racing scene are 'own designs'
with names like Sniper, TNG, SBlitz, Polecat, Gazelle and Hornet.
Entering
a competition
EPP60 is all about fun and close racing and all safe and competent
fliers are welcome to come along
and have a go. You do need to be a BMFA member though. Don't worry if you've never raced before
as there will be
plenty of friendly encouragement and advice to help you along throughout the day.
